Dealing with Depression and Failure


Few things are more depressing than perceived failure. Notice how I said perceived? If you’re dealing with depression you often have to deal with failure first.

You can’t just base your satisfaction and happiness on outcome. If you only care about outcome you are setting yourself up for failure, because it is impossible to get the outcome you want every time.

1. Enjoy the journey, not just the destination. If you can’t enjoy what you’re doing, you should be doing something else. Did I enjoy myself?

2. Enjoy learning. You can’t be perfect, but you should be able to find joy in getting better. Did I improve?

3. Face your fears. Just because you didn’t win or get the result you wanted it doesn’t mean that you didn’t accomplish anything. It takes courage to try when you know that failing is a possibility. Was I ballsy?
